Grandparents Day

We will be having a "Grandparents and Special Friends" day on 27th November. The children will be making invitations and planning some activities to share with the visitors.

Myuna Farm

The children had a fantastic day at Myuna Farm. They fed and patted animals, saw newly hatched emus, explored the wetlands, watched a goat being milked amongst other experiences.

Footsteps

The children had great fun at Footsteps. They learnt 5 dances, Rockin' Robin, The Jive, Monster Mash, Walk the Dinosaur and The Lion King. The cutest moment was watching them invite each other to dance the Jive.

Term 4

Welcome to the final term for 2009.

We have a very busy term coming up. Some of the activities planned are The Footsteps Dance comany. The children had their first session today and were taught a dance to Rockin' Robin. The children had a lot of fun whilst at the same time getting some exercise.

Our major topic this term is Farms and Farm animals. Some of the investgations will be:- different types of farms, why we have farms and how animals are looked after. Later in October we will be having an excursion to Myuna Farm. The notice will go home this week.

Swimming is coming up in November. This year we are trying a new program. There will be one lesson a week for 5 weeks and then an intensive week where the children will go each day.

All schools in Victoria are required to assess the children in Prep-2 using the new Online English Interview. This will assess the children's reading, writing and speaking and listening skills. We will commence the assessments in late October.

Drama Workshop

The Drama Workshop was a lot of fun. Some of the animals were caterpillars crawling, cicadas buzzing, butterflies flitting around, spiders spinning webs, birds swooping and worms wiggling.

100 Days

We had a wonderful day. We completed lots of activities about 100, we counted to 100, wrote numbers to 100, listed 100 different animals, did 100 exercises, has 100 seconds of silence, to name a few activites. The children had their best manners for the party which was enjoyed by all.

July 21st

This week the children have been looking at ways that we move. The focus is on the less obvious body movements for example, heart beat, blinking, breathing etc. During the computer session this week the children made a mini movie using Pivot Sticks.

Our sound this week is Bb and we have been been looking at ordinal numbers (1st, 2nd, last etc) in Maths.

Term 3 Welcome

Welcome back to all of our families. This term our main topic for investigation is to be "On the Move". This will involve looking at how we move our bodies, pushing and pulling forces and tools that we use to make our work easier.
This term the school is putting on "Kids on Broadway" the Preps have started to learn their songs and will spend time each day rehearsing. The costume will be very simple, we will let you know the details later.
Word lists:- this term we will focus on the M100Words. Most children are on Gold level at the moment. We will be testing the children regularly so keep practising.
Room 2 has new carpet. The room is looking fantastic. We are asking the children to take their shoes off before they enter the rooms.

Maths-Money

This week we are investigating money as part of out Maths program. Some of the activities that the children have participated in are:- setting up their own shop, making rubbings of coins, creating shopping lists and sorting coins.
Next time you go shopping you might like to let your child give the money and receive the change.

Sound of the Week

This week we are learning about the sound 'j'. Some of the activities that we are doing in class are:- making a Jack-in-the-Box, reading the big book 'The Jiggaree', making a very large jigsaw using 'j' words, using Sounds Great J, learning the song Juggler and making a jigsaw puzzle from the Nursery Rhyme Jack and Jill.

Safety House Day

Last week we learnt about how we can stay safe. We learnt about Safety Houses and how we can use them to help us to stay safe. We had a visit from IMA, went for a walk to find all of the Safety Houses that are near to the school and completed puzzles and activities to help us learn about Safety Houses.

Interactice Whiteboard

We are 1 week in with our Interactice Whiteboard. Today we read a poem-Jack-in-the-Box, and looked for rhyming words.
